OVERVIEW
DREAM-C is a norm-based standardized children's language assessment for Mandarin-speaking children that comprehensively evaluates children's receptive and expressive language abilities, and analyzes language skills (vocabulary, semantics, syntax, etc.) across different developmental stages.
If you are a speech-language pathologist (SLP) working with mandarin-speaking monolingual or bilingual children and their families, you will benefit from this AI-enhanced assessment tool. DREAM-C is not only thorough and highly accurate but also time-efficient and user-friendly.

A Comprehensive Assessment of 4 Language Domains
DREAM-C provides an in-depth analysis of a child's strengths and weaknesses in four critical language domains:
- Understanding vocabulary
- Understanding syntax and grammar

Norms, Validity and Reliability
In 2017, research on DREAM-C's validity, reliability, and clinical applications was published in Journal of Speech, Language and Hearing Research under the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, which indicates that DREAM-C has become the only internationally recognized, standardized language assessment tool for children speaking Mandarin Chinese.

Please note that DREAM-C is normed with monolingual Mandarin-speaking children located in mainland China. We recommend that practitioners report the standard scores with caution and use them as a clinical reference for bilingual or monolingual Mandarin-speaking children residing outside mainland China.

In May 2023, the study Prevalence, Comorbidity, and Risk Factors of Developmental Language Disorder: The
First Evidence–Based Study on Mandarin–Speaking Children was published as the cover article in The Lancet Regional Health – Western Pacific.
This landmark research represents the first internationally recognized prevalence data on language disorders
in Mandarin–speaking children.

The study assessed 974 children from 20 kindergartens in Shanghai using DREAM-C. Findings showed that:
The prevalence of Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) in 5–6–year–old children in Shanghai is 8.5%.
Children with DLD are twice as likely to experience social–emotional and behavioral difficulties (SED) compared to their peers.
Language disorders significantly impact procedural learning skills, leading to potential delays in school readiness.
